Chickens

Currently Bee Organic Farm has 13 chickens, 7 ISA Browns and 6 Rhode Island Reds. Eventually, we will add on to the chicken coop and add more birds. We purchased our birds at our local Family Farm and Home store March 2015.

Our chicken coop is a re-purposed garden shed. Michael added nesting boxes, a roost, a door, additional vents, and a few other modifications.

We are trying out the layering technique in our coop, currently we are in our second clean out with a few layers down. We are testing it out over the winter to gauge warmth and cleanliness.

We are preparing to enter into our first molting season. Current issues we are having with our birds are chicken plucking out each other's feathers. This started late spring. Also, we have a chicken with bumble foot.
